Spatial post-fire regeneration patterns of Pinus halepensis Mill. forests, (PYTHAGORAS I)
EPEAEK, Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs, (2004-2006), (Coordination)

Pinus halepensis forests are generally regarded as resilient to fire with the dominant tree species regenerating promptly after the fire event. Still, due to the high heterogeneity of the Mediterranean landscapes there might be patches where pines prevent from regenerating adequately due to a combination of factors. This project aims at testing this hypothesis and revealing the factors that affect pine regeneration across a burned landscape. As a pilot area, the case of a burned pine forest on Mt. Penteli, eastern Attica, was considered for sampling.
