Forest fires in the context of climate and social changes] Large Scale ΙP, FP7, ENV. 1.3.1.1 Grant agreement number: 243888, (2010-2014), (Scientific Partnership, Steering Committee)

The approach that we will follow in FUME is to document and evaluate which changes and factors in the past affected forest fire regimes. Aided with this, and with projections of future (XXIst century, several time-slices) climate and other socioeconomic factors that could affect fire, we will project the likely impacts on the vegetation that conform our landscapes and on fire regime. Once the likely range of impacts is quantified, we will appraise current protocols and procedures for fire prevention, fire-fighting and the management of fire-prone areas to evaluate adaptive options to cope with them. That includes an evaluation of economic costs and of policies at the European level.
